Indian Himalayas, travel with a local agency
Also known as the ‘Abode of Snow’, the Indian Himalayas are a fascinating part of the world. Made up of low valleys, high mountain ranges, trekking routes, densely forested areas and barren cold deserts, the Indian Himalayas are a land of adventure and discovery.
The landscapes of the Indian Himalayas
The Indian Himalayas are a place of natural beauty, where landscapes stretch out before your eyes glittering in shining light reflected by the snow-capped mountain peaks of the Himalayas. Walk, hike and trek through wooded hills and secret valleys passing by terraced fields and forested valleys and meeting the kind mountain people. This magical part of Northern India is a wonderful destination for both the adventurer and the gentler holidaymaker. As long as you are looking for majestic sights and unforgettable experiences, then the Indian Himalayas is the place to visit.
Trekking in the Indian Himalayas
Although it is not as popular or well known as Nepal, the Indian Himalayas offers a whole range of treks suitable for all different levels. Trekking in the Indian Himalayas brings you up close and personal with stunning high peaks, wildflower meadows, a variety of exotic flora and a mixture of Hindu, Islamic and Buddhist cultures, architecture, history and traditions. The diverse lands offer so many different treks that create different experiences, from meeting with the Gaddis shepherds, to passing through the valley of Dharamsala, a former exile land for the Tibetans escaping from the Chinese occupation. Trekking in the Indian Himalayas is far more than hiking through beautiful landscapes, but rather an opportunity to learn and discover this land’s most fascinating story.
Magnificent Ladakh
On the western side of the Indian Himalayas lies the magnificent Ladakh offering grand scenery that is ideal to visit during summers for treks and discovery trips. In the lower foothills you will find the erstwhile colonial hill stations of Shimla (once the summer capital of British India), Mussoorie and Almora. On the eastern periphery is the Arunachal Pradesh known as the “Orchid state of India”. The former kingdom of Sikkim tucked between Nepal and Bhutan is also a perfect location for treks in the Indian Himalayas. To the south is Darjeeling, the former summer resort of the elite British Empire famed for its distinctive black tea and the incredible Mount Kanchenjunga on its backdrop.
