Jodhpur
Jodhpur is one of most famous touristic places of Rajasthan. Famous for the Mehrangarh fort and known as the blue city, it is situated on the western border of India. Meharangarh Fort in the heart of the city of Jodhpur, stands 125 meters high and is spread over 5 sq. km. This once invincible fort has 4 gates including the Jay pol, the Fateh pol and the Loha pol. Within the fort are magnificent palaces with marvelously carved panels and latticed windows. They are the Moti mahal, the Sheesh mahal, the Phool mahal, the Sileh khana and the Daulat khana. These have collections of palanquins, elephant’s howdas, miniature paintings, instruments, costumes, and furniture.
Jojawar
We visited the village of Jojawar, which is somewhere between the cities of Jodhpur and Udaipur. The hotel arranged a most interesting jeep tour for us into the surrounding hillsides to see authentic rural life. The people in these village areas were generally very friendly. The two ‘non hotel’ hotels, Rawla and Kesar Bagh, have their own characters. While Rawla is traditionally styled with a lovely courtyard and swimming pool; Kesar Bagh is a contemporary setting with a Spa. Here the outdoor swimming pool is surrounded by the Aravalis. We visited the Jain temples in Ranakpur too.
Udaipur
Udaipur is a favorite among tourists in India. The beautiful lakes, palaces and lively workspaces and culture attract numerous foreign and domestic visitors. Udaipur was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh. It is famous for the City Palace, which stands on the east bank of Lake Pichola and is a massive series of palaces built at different times from 1559 onwards. The entrance to this palace is through Hathi pol or the Elephant gate, along the main street of the old city. There are a series of courtyards overlapping the pavilion of terraces, corridors and hanging gardens. There is the Suraj Gokhada, the balcony of the Sun, where the Suryawanshi (sons of the Sun God); Maharanas of Mewar, presented themselves in times of trouble to the people to restore their confidence.
